Ashley Brinton is pop’s newest sweetheart, and if you haven’t heard of her yet, then it’s time to familiarise yourself!

At only 16 years old, Ashley has already created a buzz in the industry. She collaborated with legendary music producer Cory Rooney (Drake, Mariah Carey, J.Lo) last year for her debut single ‘All I Need’, which has garnered over 329,000 views on YouTube.

Her most recent single, ‘I Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love’, is a powerful anthem which is growing fast in popularity. With a raw honesty in her music, Ashley has already proven that she is wise beyond her young years.

We recently spoke to Ashley to discuss ‘I Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love’, her style inspirations, what she hopes people will take away from her music and more.

We’re loving your latest single ‘I Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love’, it’s such an anthem! Can you tell us about the song and the inspiration behind it?

“I Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love” was inspired by a boy and a girlfriend, and the best friend of the girlfriend. The boy is a real player who cheats on his girlfriend with her best friend, but the girl really wants to fight for their love anyway. I’ve seen the situation happen firsthand, and I see it all the time, so I wanted to let anyone going through it know that they are not alone.

The video for it is gorgeous, with some of the scenes filmed at Vasquez Rocks. What was the filming process like?

The filming process so amazing. The videographers were the best. I had never experienced anything like that before. It honestly felt like I was in a movie and it was all coming together very beautifully and creatively – I felt so lucky. I was really trying to take in every aspect of shooting.

How much creative input did you get into the video?

I put a lot of creative input into the video. I’m very detail-oriented and specific about what I do in everything. I had the idea of the desert because I wanted that to coincide with someone being left alone, like the song kind of says. I’m so lucky that everyone I worked with let me have so much input into the video. It turned out amazing.

You worked with music producer veteran Cory Rooney on your debut single ‘All I Need’. What was he like to work with?

The experience was unlike anything I’ve ever done before. I couldn’t even believe I had the opportunity to work with Cory because of all of his success. He’s so creative and has so much advice and wisdom to give about the industry. I’m so lucky to have him in my life. We are truly like family now.

Is there an EP or album in the works? If so, what can we expect from it?

There is definitely an EP coming out soon. You can expect a lot of inspiration and feel good music. It’s really important for me to exude positive energy. I want everyone to feel good when they listen to my music. I can’t wait to release everything.

You’re only 16 but you already write so maturely. Both of your released songs were inspired by your friends, who or what else inspires you musically?

Inspiration can strike from anywhere. It could be situations with friends or family, or even people that I see who I don’t even know. I’m constantly being inspired by my surroundings. I’m very aware of my surroundings and always paying attention. A lot of inspiration comes out of that for me.

What do you hope that people will take away from your music?

I hope that people just feel really good when they listen to my music. I feel happiest when I’m writing, recording, or performing and I really want my listeners to feel the same way.

If you could pick three artists to collaborate with, who would they be and why?

First, The Weeknd. Simply because I love him. He is so talented. He’s one of my favorite artists right now. I would love to collaborate with Taylor Swift. She’s a huge inspiration for me. I love how she handles herself, professionally. I would also love to collab with Lana Del Rey. I would love to sit and write a song with her. She writes so beautifully and I think our voices would mesh really well and create a cool sound.

We’ve got to say, you’ve been serving some awesome looks in your music videos and on Instagram. Who are your style inspirations?

Right now, I’m loving Bella Hadid and Hailey Baldwin’s street style. They always look so effortless and cool. I also get so much inspiration from vintage stores. I just moved to LA and they have tons. I love to walk around and find cool pieces to mix with current clothing. It always creates a unique look.

When you’re not busy with your music, how do you like to relax? We hear you’re a big animal lover?

I am a HUGE animal lover. I love my dogs so much and spend most of my free time with them. We walk, hang out, whatever. I talk to them like humans. I also love to knit. I know it sounds funny, but I really enjoy it and it really relaxes me.

What do you have planned for the rest of 2017?

There will be lots of exciting things coming up. Look out for my EP, live shows, and so much more. Stay tuned!!

Thank you Ashley for her time! ‘I Don’t Wanna Lose Your Love’ is available now.
