5 ways celebrities pass the time when theyre not at work

Your favourite celebrities are really just like you and me. When they’re not at work, they’ve got time on their hands to relax and unwind – and what they choose to get up to might surprise you. Below, we’ve put together some of their favourite pastimes in this blog post…

Cooking

With millions of dollars in the bank, stars like Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran should have a personal chef on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week, right? Wrong! Celebs love to roll up their sleeves and get experimental in the kitchen, and they’re not afraid to put in the hard work to create delicious dishes. Ed Helms, star of The Hangover movie, regularly shares snaps of his favourite dishes on Instagram, recently showing his one million followers the huge pot of chilli he made for his family in lockdown. Ina Garten, Nick Kroll, and Jessie James Decker put their culinary skills to the test on occasion, too – we’d love to try their food!

Gambling

“A little gambling is fun when you’re with me,” says A Star is Born actor Lady Gaga. With so much free time and seemingly endless disposable income, celebrities such as Tiger Woods, Victoria Coren-Mitchell, Michael Jordan, Tobey Maguire, and Floyd Mayweather are often spotted in casinos in Las Vegas. During the lockdown, some have even taken to websites like casimple.com so they can enjoy a flutter without having to leave the house.

Write music

Okay, time for an obvious one. Our favourite musicians spend a lot of their free time coming up with concepts for new music, whether it be a solo project or an album for a movie. Sia is one of the industry’s most prolific songwriters, writing more than 75 Billboard Hot 100 songs for other artists alone. With no boss to answer to, home studios and a real passion and talent for music, we can’t blame them. What we’d give to be a fly on the wall for a day or two.

Give back to charity

It’s easy to assume that our favourite stars spend every waking moment pampering themselves in their luxury mansions and counting their money, but the truth is that many of them are passionate about giving back to the communities around them. Elton John, for example, has donated an eye-watering £26 million to charity in his lifetime, whereas David Beckham often volunteers at football clubs for disadvantaged children, and has donated more than £5 million of his fortunes. Taylor Swift is another charitable queen and we love to see it.

Looking after their pets

Celebrities often struggle to make new friends as their careers develop and find it hard to open up to those who don’t share their limelight or success. Instead, they turn to their furry friends and fill their homes with the cutest animals known to man. The Obama family have a bunch of adorable dogs, Spencer Pratt looks after hummingbirds, and Katy Perry’s dog nugget is so famous it has its own Instagram page. No, we’re not kidding. Follow him.

Which of these surprised you the most? Let us know and check back soon for more.
